Julien woke up with a long bloody scratch on the side of his face today. When Daddy Low showed me, I felt pain for my little boy. And could not understand how that scratch came about, since Jules was wearing a babygro with built-in mittens and socks.
That is, until we realised that, at 2 months and 2 weeks old, Julien has outgrown his 0-3 months babygros. His fingers were popping out of the mittens and it was these broken-free digits that had caused that ugly scar. We washed it and luckily it was not deep and with the blood washed away, one can barely see it now.
It is clear to us now that our boy is growing fast and from all signs, he is likely to be tall and big too. At a restaurant last night, the old lady next table had beamed at us and commended us for a good job well done to produce such a strapping boy. She then hazarded a guess that Baby is 7-8 months old. I almost looked sheepish when I replied nope, only 2 and a half months. She had a look of incredulity.
I am not worried though, for my girlfrens' babies, those born in August, are looking this size if not bigger. And Jules is healthy enough and in fact, wants to feed quite a bit, so Daddy Low and I really want to support this growth.
In fact, just the day before, we had noticed that he is straining against his clothes and had gone shopping for babygros the next level up - 3-6 months. And would you believe it, someone has been there first wiping out the same stage clothes. I saw a few designs I like, but all sizes were available except 3-6! Of course, Christmas is also near and people do tend to buy 3-6 months as presents for newborns, leaving the parents to take care of 0-3. Anyway, we did manage to grab 2 packs of 3-6 and I immediately put them in the wash, so that Julien can transit to his new clothes and we can prevent scratches.
But clearly, he was just too fast for me. That red straggly line is testimony of that.
So, straight after we washed that scar, we bathed him and I took out one newly washed 3-6 month babygro, ironed it and dressed Jules in it. So, this is a milestone - At 2 months 2 weeks, Julien has already graduated to 3-6 months clothes. I spent the rest of the day going through the rest of his clothes and folding away the 0-3 clothes that he can no longer fit.
Together with this lengthening of the body is the strengthening of his muscles. My little boy now is rapidly transforming into a veritable little man - he is starting to want to stand when you hold him upright. His legs are quite strong now and he can stand with support for quite a bit of a spell. And his neck is strengthening too, which means the little tyke is ever more and more inquisitive and curious, wanting to sit up, so as to be able to see the world better. I have been telling Daddy Low that we ought to do our research for a baby highchair soon.
Also, Julien is also increasingly wanting to talk and interact. If you focus your gaze at him for long and talk to him, he starts to respond and coo back or sigh. Today, he had quite a long conversation with Daddy Low, which made the latter really happy, since he doesn't get a lot of time with Julien and worries that he will miss out on such moments. Only Julien knew what the topic was, as he happily cooed and laughed along. I do wonder what he is thinking about when he is talking away in his own language. For they do mean something when they "talk", I think. You cannot help but think so, especially when you watch our frens' twins interact and "talk" with one another. At 21 months, they now know how to face each other and "talk". If not for the fact that they are speaking in Yamasaki baby language, it is exactly like a normal, standard human conversation. There is eye contact with one another and one listens while the other speaks, followed by replying when it is his turn. It is a truly bizarrely wonderful sight and I always always wonder what they are talking about and if they really understand each other in these brotherly conversations.
One other thing I have noticed about Julien - he is drooling lots these days. This started about 2 weeks ago. Often, the area around his neckline on his clothes is always wet now. I was told that they "bubble" a lot when they are about to start teething, but surely this is a little too early now for Julien to start teething. But, really, who knows? After all, Julien did lead someone to believe that he is now 7-8 months old! :)
So, with Jules in his new 3-6 month babygros, we start all over again with the excess cloth space in the sleeves, the legs... Level 2 has officially begun!

Hi Kelly,
ReplyDeleteIt gave me a little stab in my heart, when I had to put a way the little babycloth...sniff, but it is nice as well to buy some nice new cloth for your little angel.
Julien looks gorgeous in his new cloth!
